Instruction

The 3M 1870+ particulate respirator is a personal protective equipment (PPE) that is primarily intended to protect the health care workers by reducing exposure to harmful airborne particles which are small enough to be inhaled typically particles less than 100 microns in size. These include airborne particles that may contain biological material e. g. Bacillus anthracis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, mould and the virus that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) , and Influenza.

WARNING

These respirators help reduce exposures to certain airborne contaminants. Before use, the wearer must read and understand the User Instructions provided as a part of the product packaging. In the U.S., a written respiratory protection program must be implemented meeting all the requirements of OSHA 1910.134 including training, fit testing and medical evaluation.

Do Not Use For

• DO NOT use in industrial settings.
• DO NOT use for gases or vapours (i. e. Anesthetic gases such as isoflurane or vapours from sterilants such as glutaraldehyde.)
• DO NOT use in any manner not indicated in the User Instructions

Cautions and Limitations

General Cautions and Limitations for All Part 84A Approvals Non-powered Air-Purifying Particulate Filter Respirators. These limitations are by no means all-inclusive.

FIT-CHECK THE FACE-SEAL AS FOLLOWS:
. Place both hands over the respirator do not disturb the position of the respirator.
. Inhale sharply (a negative pressure should be felt inside the respirator).
. If you detect air-leaks, readjust the head straps and/or the nose-piece.

User Instruction

1. It is recommended that fit testing be conducted before assigning a respirator to an individual. If you cannot achieve a proper fit then do not enter contaminated area. See your supervisor.
2.  Inspect respirator before each use to ensure it is in good working condition. Examine all the respirator parts for signs of damage including the two straps, noseclip, nose foam and staples. The respirator should be disposed of immediately upon observation of damaged or missing parts. The respirator should be disposed of immediately upon observation of damaged or missing parts.
3. Leave the contaminated area immediately and contact supervisor if dizziness, irritation or other distress occurs.
4. Dispose of used product in accordance with applicable regulations.
5. All respirators should be used in accordance with local regulations.
6.  Do not alter, repair, wash, and abuse or misuse the respirator.
7. Do not use with beards or other facial hair or conditions that prevent a good seal between the face and the sealing edge of the respirator.
8. The respirator can help protect the wearer’s lungs against certain airborne contaminants; however, it will not prevent entry through other routes such as the skin or eyes, which would require additional personal protective equipment (PPE).
9. The respirator is designed for occupational/professional use by adults who are properly trained in it’s use and limitations. The respirator is not designed to be used by children.
10. Individuals with a compromised respiratory system, such as asthma
    or emphysema, should consult a physician and complete a medical evaluation prior to use.
11. Maximum Operating Temperature: +50 degrees Celsius.
12. The filtration efficiency of the respirator may decrease in the presence of oily mists
